Tehsil status to Ghagwal demanded
DDC convenes public darbar at Ghagwal

District Development Commissioner Samba Mr B S Jamwal today convened a public grievances redressal darbar at Ghagwal.
The people from Ghagwal and its adjoining areas thronged the darbar venue to highlight their demands and problems.
Strongly pleading for tehsil status to Ghagwal which comprises 82 villages and 18 panchayats, the people urged upon the DDC to recommend this vital issue to the government to get it sorted out at the earliest. They also suggested to implement the development schemes after the area will be granted tehsil status to ensure its progress in a more cohesive manner.
In this regard, Mr Jamwal informed the people that the matter of granting tehsil status to Ghagwal is already under active consideration of high powered committee. He also assured that this demand is expected to be met within a time of few months. Other demands brought out in the notice of DDC included implementation of rural development programme, better road connectivity, proper water and power supply and other common issues.
Referring to power scenario in the area, the DDC informed that power supply line and transformers will be upgraded in phased manner to improve power supply to the people. Besides, he asked the accompanying officers to immediately take necessary steps to mitigate the sufferings of people.
Mr Jamwal reviewed various ongoing new schemes in Ghagwal. He was informed that work on three ongoing water supply schemes including WSS Ghagwal, WSS Rattanpur and WSS Kootah is in progress. Likewise, under a new scheme WSS Sungwali worth Rs.82.50 lakh and under water supply to SC Basti Chinore Talab of Kanik worth Rs.23 lakh 8 bore wells each would drilled.
Among others Tehsildar Samba, Executive Engineers, PWD, PHE, PDD, AEEs and other concerned officers from Kathua and Samba districts attended the meeting.
