Eyewitnesses said that a seventy years old man Baldev Raj son of Swarn Kumar was overrun by an over speedy army vehicle near Tanki No 4, Dudama in the outskirts of Akhnoor town, this afternoon When the reports of the death spread in the village, a large number of people came on road and staged a protest demonstration against the army personnel. The protestors were demanding immediate arrest of the driver, who fled from the spot after the accident. Raising slogans against the police and army, the protestors resorted to stone pelting on the police. Sources said that police used baton charge to disperse the mob. At least five persons were injured in the lathicharge, who were rushed to Akhnoor hospital, sources added. Meanwhile, police said that a case for causing death by negligence and rash driving has been lodged against the army driver.
