| Surrender or die, Musharraf tells Lal Masjid militants | | | ISLAMABAD In a blunt warning to hundreds of radical students and militants holed up in the Lal Masjid, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Saturday said that they must surrender failing which they would all be killed.
During his visit to Balochistan to oversee relief work for flood-affected people, Musharraf said those holed up in the radical mosque in the heart of Islamabad 'must surrender or else they will killed'.
"No compromise would be made on peace and writ of the law will be ensured all over the country at all costs," Dawn news TV quoted him as saying during visit to provincial capital, Quetta.
The militants headed by the deputy administrator of the mosque, Abdul Rashid Ghazi should surrender of face death, the General said.
Musharraf's comments came as security forces continued their siege of the mosque for the fifth day with Ghazi vowing to fight till the death of all the militants holed up within the complex.
Also, militants on Saturday sneaked out to another nearby mosque Gazia Maharia and fired at army personnel with pistol. One military official was injured and rushed to the hospital.
Soon after the General's message, Information Minister, Muhammad Ali Durrani said that Lal Masjid inmates 'should surrender in front of the government. That is the best way out'.
Accusing the militants of using women and children as human shields, he said 'they were locked up in undergoing bunkers. Parents of children were worried about their safety.'
