Speaker visits Khour to assess flood situation in river Chenab

JAMMU, JULY 08
Speaker Legislative Assembly Mr. Tara Chand today visited Bakore, Laham, Bhagwan Chak, Kote Mehra and Dhard Khour in Khour block villages to asses the flood situation in river Chenab.
Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Mr. V. K. Abrol, Block President Khour Mr. Puran Singh and other senior engineers of I&FC were also accompanied the Speaker.
During the visit, the Speaker said that the present government led by the dynamic and straightforward Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad has focused its attention on accelerating developmental activities with due priority to border belt and inaccessible areas still lagging behind in road connectivity, drinking water, power supply, education and healthcare facilities. He said that during the 18 months tenure of Azad’s government massive infrastructure development has been made in the state especially in far-flung areas. He appealed the general masses to cooperate with the government agencies in smooth execution of works taking place in their areas for ensuring over all prosperity of the state. He also stressed upon the officers to work with dedication and honesty so that ongoing works could be completed in stipulated time frame.
The Speaker issued on spot instructions to Irrigation and Flood Control authorities to immediately start the repair and renovation work of crates along the river chenab so that the general masses do not face any problem due to flood in rainy season. He informed that the state government has already sent a proposal of Rs. 25 crore for anti erosion work to Government of India for the construction of bunds out of which Rs. 6 crore was sanctioned by the Centre government and Rs. 2 crore by state government for immediately start the construction work of bunds along the river Chenab last year.
Stressing for unity in diversity, the Speaker called upon the people to maintain communal amity and brotherhood to ensure speedy development and prevalence of erstwhile peace and tranquility in the state. He appealed the all sections of the society not to be misled by the false propaganda of vested interests who are inimical to the functioning style of existing government which has made firm determination to root out corruption, punish dishonest and imbibe work culture in the government departments.
Several deputations also called on the Speaker to apprise him of their problems mostly related to repair and renovation of lanes, drains, bye-lanes and supply of electric poles in some left out hamlets after listening their problems and grievances, the Speaker assured that their genuine demands would be looked into on priority.
