| Enhanced salary, reduced qualifying service likely for ReTs | | | Jammu, Aug 10 : Thousands of youth who were extending their services in the state education department for mere Rs 1500 per month may get a sigh of relief as the government is likely to enhance the salary of Rahbar-e-Taleem teachers and reduce the qualifying service for permanent absorption from five years to three years. As per official sources, the decision is likely to be taken in the next cabinet meeting, schedule to be held by the ending of this month. The chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is himself holding the charge of education minister, has discussed the proposal with the senior officials of the department, sources in the power corridors told News Agency of Kashmir over phone from Srinagar. “The chief minister has given his nod for the proposal”, sources said adding, “It would be a big boost for the Rahbar-e-Taleem teachers who have been rendering their services. Sources further said that the proposal would be put before the state cabinet for the formal approval. Presently each ReT is getting a mere Rs1500 irrespective of their qualification. If the sources have to be believed, the new proposal fixes separate salaries for under graduate and graduate and above teachers of this category. “As per this proposal the graduate teachers are likely to get Rs 3000, while the under graduate would get Rs 2500 against the uniform rate of Rs 1500”. What is being considered as the boldest step, the state government is also likely to reduce the qualifying services of ReTs for the regular appointment. Sources said that the new fixes the qualifying service to three years instead of 5 years. Thousands of education youth are rendering their services as ReTs in the far flung areas of the state. The scheme to engage the youth as ReTs to boost the education standard of the rural areas was started during the tenure of former chief minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and it has received tremendous response. Besides ensuring the regular attendance of the teachers, the scheme has also reportedly shown good result in the academic levels. |
