Heavy losses reported in rains
7/10/2007 12:19:46 AM

July 09-Heavy losses to the standing crops and houses has been reported from different parts of Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar districts due to the torrential rains that lashed these hilly areas during the last few days.
The affected people have been clamoring for relief with no body from the administration coming forward to assess the losses and provide immediate relief to the affected families, the residents allege.
It is pertinent to mention here that despite of lapse of nearly two years, no compensation has been paid till date to the affected people who suffered losses during floods and rains.
When this correspondent visited the houses of these victims to listen their grievances they said that heavy rains had damaged their houses two years back and the local administration after visiting all the spots and taking photographs of damaged houses and prepared relief papers but till that people are waiting for the relief. The residential dwellings have also developed cracks and despite this they are living in their houses risking their lives, said Mohd. Shafi S/o Gh. Mohd, Mohd. Shrief S/o Mohd. Shaban and Rameshwari Devi Wd/o Late Mangat Ram Bhagat residents of Atal Garh Bhadarwah while talking to this Correspondent.
These houses can collapse any time and the risk of the loss of life is increasing with every passing day and the hapless victims who are extremely poor are not in a position to repair their damage houses and need financial help from the Government.
The affected people have once again requested the Government to sanction relief so that they will safeguard themselves and their wards from the risk of life and they can sleep tension free in the nights with their family members.
