| Security beefed up in Valley ahead of I-Day | | | Srinagar, Aug 10 : With Independence Day round the corner, security in and around the summer capital has been beefed up by erecting barricades at all the entry points. Police sources said that additional contingents of police and Para military forces have been deployed to check any possible attempt by militants to show their presence as they have been doing at such occasions The vehicles coming are being thoroughly checked and frisking has been intensified at all the important offices and VIP localities. The Matadors and passenger buses coming from peripheral districts and Tehsils head quarters were also being checked thoroughly. Police and CRPF parties could be seen in large numbers at almost every place who stop the Vehicles for thorough checking. However, people are not very much happy with this as it takes them hours together to reach their destinations. “From tomorrow I would prefer to remain in doors then to come out for my routine work”, argued a commuter when he was stopped for checking and frisking, in the heart of the city. The yesterday’s incident of alleged killing of a college Boy from Bandipora has also added to the panic of the people. Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, a final year student of Amar Singh College, was allegedly fired upon and killed by security forces at Dalgate after he was asked to de-board the Metadoor he was traveling in. |
