| PSU workers to hold hunger strike near Parliament House | | |
Jammu | July 9 All Public Sector Employees and Workers Federation, (APSEWF) Jammu have decided to go on ‘indefinite hunger strike’ before Parliament House at Delhi, if state government failed to full their genuine demands within a fortnight. Addressing a press conference here today, president of APSEWF, Amrik Singh Sasan said employees of public sector undertaking have not received their salary for the last couple of months, and COLA has been pending since January 2004. He said, families of the workers are facing lot of hardships and the worst is they are not in a position to pay monthly fee of school/college. He said situation has risen to such an extent that the workers have started living as beggars as government is not worried about them. Sasan said, with the formation of coalition govt. in the state, PSU employees were expecting better treatment, but all their hopes were dashed to ground. He said committees formed by the government did nothing in solving the PSU problems. He further said, government should take some steps to safeguard the livelihood of about 30,000 employees and not to compel them to take extreme steps. He said the assurance given by Chief Minister on May Ist, last year here, has borne no fruits as the employees are still clamoring for their legitimate demands.
