| Army launches ‘Greening Ladakh’ campaign | | | Leh July 9- As a prelude to the 4th Military World Games in October 2007 being held at after 100 days in Hyderbad,’ Greening Ladakh’ event was organized at Military station here to combat the problems of environment degradation. Lt Gen PC Bhardwaj, General Officer Commanding Fire and Fury Corps and Mrs Deepa Bhardwaj President AWWA, led the big movement’ Greening Ladakh’ at Army school here today. The General in his address to the children emphasized the need to protest the environment for future. He said that it takes decades for a tree to mature and only a few moments to chop that tree down. Deforestation accounts for 20 per cent of global carbon dioxide emission adding that plants and tress help clear the air pollutants by releasing oxygen. He stressed the need for protecting and preserving the trees for putting a halt to global warming. Officers, JCOs, other ranks, families and children of Fire and Fury Corps took part in the movement ‘Greening Ladakh’ to lend support to combat the problem of environmental degradation.
