BJP expresses grief over Chandra Shekhar’s demise
7/10/2007 12:27:28 AM

Jammu July 9- At a condolence meeting held at party headquarters under State President Ashok Khajuria, State BJP leaders expressed deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise of former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar.
Ashok Khajuria, while paying tributes to Chandra Shekhar, described him as a clean imaged and most respectable politician who was even admired by his rivals for his simplicity and straight forwardness. How much respect he had for democratic values in the country is clear from his total opposition to the imposition of Emergency in 1975 by the Congress despite the fact that he himself was a Congressman and was put behind bars for 18 months for his opposition, he said. He said that in the demise of Chandra Shekhar, the country has lost a true secular and a socialist leader who played a vital role during JP movement in the country.
The party leaders also observed 2-minute silence for the peace of the departed soul.
Member National Executive and former State President Dr. Nirmal Singh, Vice-Presidents Prof. Hari Om, Smt. Suresh Jamwal and Satish Sharma, General Secretaries Ajay Jamwal, Shamsher Singh Manhas and Bali Bhagat, Secretaries Jyoti Parkash Sharma, Yudhvir Sethi and Charanjit Singh Khalsa, Treasurer Sat Sharma (C.A), Press Secretary Balbir Ram, Publicity Secretary Parmodh Kapahi, Office Secretary Shiv Kumar Gupta, Addl. Treasure Rajesh Gupta, Addl. Publicity secretary Ashwani Bali, District. President Kavinder Gupta, District. Gen. Secretary (Org.) Mohan Singh, BJYM Secretary Pranav Gupta, Mahila Morcha Secretary Priya Sethi, Morcha Spokesperson Geeta Thakur and Morcha Press secretary Rajni Sethi were prominent among those who paid their tributes to the former Prime Minister.
