| Soz meets PM; seeks enhancement of Haj quota | | | Jammu, Aug 10 : The Union Minister for Water Resources, Prof. Saif-ud-din Soz today met the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and strongly pleased with him the need to enhance this year’s quota for Haj pilgrims form Jammu and Kashmir State. As per the reports reaching here from New Delhi, Prof Soz told the Prime Minister that the Haj Committee, Mumbai, which had fixed a quota of 6617 for Haj 2006-II should be directed to enhance the quota and accommodate all the intending Haj pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir. The minister informed the prime minister that so far 12893 applications have been received by the State Haj Committee from the intending pilgrims, sources told News Agency of Kashmir, over phone from union capital. For Haj 2006-I, all the 9,198 intending pilgrims were accommodated, Prof. Soz reportedly said in a written memorandum submitted to the PM. Later today, Prof. Soz also apprised the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, E. Ahmad of the situation and requested him that efforts should be made to accommodate all the intending pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir for the Haj 2006-II which would convey a positive signal to the people and would also be in tune with the Prime Minister’s effort to strengthen the process of normalization in J&K State. |
