| Sheikhpora quarters vulnerable to security risks’ | | ‘Jagti can’t dilute return of KPs to their roots’: RIK | | Jammu/New Delhi July 10- Roots in Kashmir in its meeting today , took a positive note of the developments vis a vis of shifting the Kashmiri Pandit community camps to a better place in Jagti, but at the same time RIK was dismayed at the attitude of government projecting it as a final place of settlement for Kashmiri Pandits, while we know that this dislocation and displacement is going to cause enormous difficulties to the people who have already settled in the camps, Instead the temporary quarters should had been raised in or near the existing camps so as to lessen the sufferings. RIK wants to make it clear that Jagti is only a temporary place of rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits and it in no way can dilute the return of Kashmiri Pandits to their land and roots back in Kashmir. RIK also rejects the Sheikhpora quarters for the minority displaced community. Kashmiri Pandits in no case will go to the ghettos of Sheikhpora. A team of RIK which recently visited the Shiekhpora quarters has rejected the same on various grounds. Sheikhpora quarters are vulnerable to the security risks and in no way can increase the confidence of Kashmiri Pandit community. Sheikhpora looks as bait for the displaced community to get sacrificed. RIK, instead demands the making of a township like Jagti in the valley for the temporary rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandit community as a first step towards the permanent settlement of Kashmiri Pandits back in their Homeland. We demand that the land must be identified in the valley in consultation with Kashmiri Pandit leadership and the township must be of international standards. RIK warns certain elements of misleading the community with respect to Jagti as being the final destination of rehabilitation. Kashmiri Pandits in no way can forgo their claim on their Homeland as Kashmir is the life line of Kashmiri Pandits. We appeal to the Prime Minister that immediate steps must be taken to start the process of making a township back in valley in consultation with the Kashmiri Pandit leadership
