Fairer sex in Khakis not only has been shouldering the routine responsibilities but has also been entrusted with the intense duties these days unofficially, sources in police said. Male bastion in police stations paved the way to the women counterparts as at some police stations the women have been handling the work of Munshi, well placed sources said.

The fairer sex in Khakis is now sharing seats on the tough job of ‘Munshi’ in various police posts/stations due to their flair knowledge in the State’s official language- the Urdu secondly the shortage of human resources, sources said.
Breaking the social barriers and shackles many women have joined the uniform stepping out of the usual routine employment avenues but they were offered soft duties but now they have to trespass and sit on the key chair of the Munshi in the police posts/stations. Sources, however, added that though the these positions have not been allotted officially but the women are handling these assignments on mutual trust and thus no formal orders have been issued to these new incumbents in the police stations.
‘Since some girls hailing from areas where Urdu is taught at elementary and high school level as optional subjects viz. Doda, Kishtwar, Kargil, Leh, Rajouri and Poonch, their flair knowledge for Urdu has become a boon for Khaki now and it has transferred the duties to the fairer faces, on anonymity said policewoman while discharging duties of Munshi at one Police station. Sources in the department revealed that the lady constables in the Police Department have been engaged as Munshi at different police stations of the city and in the outskirts of the city. It is to mention the women police that was once visible only on the odd occasions of political parties’ protests or strikes to handle the women protestors but with the turmoil within the state the duties have become more hectic for them. Women police could be marked at various security points like secretariat, outside the VVIPs residences and at the police stations sitting in the chair that has been dominated by the men in this male dominant society.
Here is to be mention that many senior lady officers have been already in charge many of the police stations in the city and they work to control crime in the area to make society crime free and now when the lady cops were seen on the post of munshi it is a great step for women’s emancipation.
When contacted Director General of Police Gopal Sharma, said, that the women have an equal role in the society and it will be appreciated if they come forward to share the responsibility.
