| Jora visits Stakna and Igoo-Martsclang Hydel Projects | | | Leh, August 10 –Power Minister Mr Nawang Rigzin Jora today visited Stakna Hydel Project and Igoo-Martsclang Hydel Project and took stock of the present situation at these projects in the backdrop of latest flood. He directed the power functionaries to restore the power supplies in Leh and its surrounding areas as soon as the silting problem is over. The Minister also visited Tukcha-Yokma, Spituk, Stok, Chuchot and Igoo and met with the people. He inspected the damages and losses caused due to recent rainfall in the area. To avoid further damage to the crops and fields, Mr Jora directed the administration to divert the over flow water into the rivers. He also appealed the people to avoid encroachment on the traditional waterways. In view of the damages caused to the head works in these villages, Mr Jora said that the main focus should be given to save the standing crops and to restore the internal link roads connectivity. He directed the district administration to initiate remedial measures to save the life and property and for avoiding further damages in the wake of more rains. The Power Minister also visited the most flood-affected village of Phayang yesterday and met with the sufferers. He assured them to provide all possible half and assistance from the government to restore their normal lives. Mr Jora directed the administration to have special focus to restore the head of works of irrigational khuls in order to save the standing crops. Besides, he also emphasized for early restoration of links road movement of vehicles and cattle. The Minister directed the Superintending Engineer, PWD to create new designed structure of protection bunds along the vulnerable points so the remaining houses and fields is prevented in case of further flood. Minister also inspected the head works of the 3.75 MW Stakna Hydle Project and 3 MW Igoo Martsclang Project were the silt of recent flood has accumulated and has stopped functioning of power since last 7-days. The Minister directed the Superintending Engineer PDD to ensure early clearing of silt from the head works so that the power supply is ensure. |
