| Will it be Tikoo, Gill or Khuda to succeed Gopal Sharma as DG police ? | | | Jammu, July 11 The Union Home Ministry is treading cautiously and weighing its various options before clearing the posting of Gopal Sharma, Director General Police Jammu and Kashmir, as commissioner police Delhi. Reports said that the Union Home Ministry has found Gopal Sharmas’ professionalism and his cool temperament –as key factors before recommending his name for the covetous post. But one hitch has cropped up. Ms Kiran Bedi IPS officer of 1972 batch is said to have protested against the move of the Government to appoint Gopal Sharma as Commissioner police. She is said to have met Prime Minister,Dr Manmohan Singh, and conveyed to him her protest against the move to install Mr Sharma as Police commissioner Delhi. Ms Bedi is understood to have suggested to Dr Manmohan Singh that Delhi needed a police commissioner who had earlier served in the union capital and had complete knowledge of the area and its people. She has opposed the move of bringing senior officers from outside the state’s cadre.Ms Bedi has held important police posts in Delhi as Deputy police commissioner and as DG Tihar jail. In case the plea of Ms Bedi is rejected decks will be cleared for three senior IPS officers for heading the police in Jammu and Kashmir.Among them are included R.Tikoo DG Prisons,P.S.Gill ADG Armed police, Kuldeep Khuda,ADG CID.Ashok Bhan of 1976 batch who heads Vigilance Organisation is also in the race but if seniority was given weightage Tikoo is on the top of the list followed P.S.Gill and Kuldeep Khuda. In case Ashok Bhan was elevated to the rank of DG police then the Government has to promote both Gill and Khuda to the rank of DGP. At present indications are that Kuldeep Khuda has better chances than others for occupying the DG’s chair if Mr Gopal Sharma is posted outside the state.
