| Regional discrimination on increase, alleges Prof Gupta | | | Jammu July 11-Ridiculing the slogans of Khushali and development by the leaders of the Congress led coalition government, the former Union Minister and senior BJP leader, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta said that on the ground there is total chaos and confusion coupled with ever increasing discrimination under regional and communal considerations. After his 2-day visit to the mountainous areas of Doda, Prof. Gupta was astonished that though this district has been divided into three districts viz Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban but the fact remains a total anarchy as there was little infrastructure, little accommodation, furniture and basic amenities for the administrative set up. Though three District Development Commissioners have been appointed having their offices at Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban but other district officers and staff is nowhere. For three districts there is only one Chief Medical Officer, One Zonal Education Officer and One Planning Officer. Similar is the position for other Departments. All the officers’ shuttle from one district to another as a result of which they are enable to attend to their normal duties. But more than this, there are little funds and allocation remains almost the same for different areas although for name sake three districts have been created there, he added and pointed out though the district position required more funds but the allocation for Kishtwar areas remained the same i.e. Rs. 28 crore which used to be earlier for this area when it was having the status of sub-division. So are the conditions in Ramban. Prof. Gupta said that while there has been little increase in the provision of funds for Districts in Jammu regions, the allocation in the valley districts is almost doubled although the terrain and geographical area are far bigger than those of the districts in the valley of Kashmir. About the developmental activities, Prof. Gupta alleged that no new scheme in the central sector has been taken up in the entire Doda area and in certain cases even those schemes have come to a halt which were taken up for execution during NDA regime. He further said that not a single SPO has been recruited nor any Village Defence Committee strengthened since the Congress-led UPA government took over the reigns of power. The BJP leader regretted that there has been no change in the policies of regional disparities and communal considerations by the state government although much was claimed when Ghulam Nabi Azad had assumed the leadership of the state as being a man from Jammu.
