| Mufti loyalist Vijay Bakaya shake hands with Abdullahs, jumps off singking ship | | |
Srinagar, July 12 The expected has happened. A former Chief Secretary, Vijay Bakaya, today formally joined the National Conference. Patron of the National Conference, Dr Farooq Abdullah, and President,Omar Abdullah, welcomed him. They said that Bakaya Sahib wished to join “our party and we kept the doors open.” Bakaya said that he joined the National Conference because “its ideology is close to my heart.” He said ,during his chequered long career as an IAS officer”I had the privilege to work under several senior NC leaders including Sheikh Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah when they were the Chief Ministers. ”He said both Sheikh Sahib and Farooq Sahib had helped “me in managing my administrative affairs.” Asked by newsmen why he joined the National Conference when the PDP patron,Mufti Mohd.Sayeed, when he was the Chief Minister, had promoted him to the rank of Chief secretary Bakaya said “my promotion was due and nobody could stop it.” In reply to another question the former Chief secretary said “I have joined the National Conference not only as a Pandit but as a kashmiri.”Inside reports said that the National Conference leaders had lured him to their organization because they would be able to get a detailed brief on the omissions and commissions of the regime headed by the Mufti.Another factor responsible for Dr Farooq and Omar Abdullah to open the party door for Bakaya was to utilize his services in wooing Kashmiri Pandit voters settled in Jammu and other parts of the region because it has been seen that during very poor percentage of polling Pandit voters play a decisive role in the poll results in atleast 10 Assembly constituencies in the Kashmir valley, notwithstanding the fact that Bakaya has not any major influence among the Pandit voters. Those who describe Bakaya’s entry in the National Conference as part of the plan of Farooq-Omar to enroll several former bureaucrats and active politicians refer to Farooq Abdullah’s brief statement during the press conference that many other high profile persons were shortly joining the National Conference. Inside reports said over a dozen former bureaucrats were being admitted in the NC.
