Top cops in J&K await posting order
7/13/2007 11:59:50 AM

Jammu, July
Undue delay caused in ordering posting of over 100 senior police officers in the state is worrying police officers as state cabinet is still keeping the burning issue under wraps much to the discomfiture of majority of these officers awaiting fresh posting orders.
Reliable sources said that more than one month has lapsed when state government decided to elevate officers of the rank of DIG to IG but till date no posting order has been issued in this regard.
At least fate of 10 SSPs promoted to the rank of DIG continue to hang in balance as they are yet to be posted. The situation is no different among the junior rank officers in the state as large army of them was still awaiting fresh posting. According to rough estimates, out of 50 DSPs,including some direct recruits, only five officers have been posted while others are yet to find a place of posting. The result of this delay in their postings is that their services are not fully utilized.
The sources said that while the cabinet or the Chief Minister, who holds the portfolio of Home, could have decided the issue of postings of one IG and 10 DIGs the DG police had the powers to issue posting orders of the SPs and DSPs.
Police sources said that those waiting shouldering some responsibility feel dismayed because their colleagues continue to ridicule them and blame them for idling their time in their offices. Some of the officers who are yet to get the posting orders were seen attending their offices for a couple of hours and spend rest of the time in their homes
