| PDP representing people's aspirations: Karra | | Emerging situation reinforces exigency for Kashmir resolution: Sayeed | | Srinagar Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has said the emerging situation in the sub-continent demands determined political and diplomatic initiatives to expand the range and substance of the peace process for the ultimate resolution of the Kashmir issue. "The fundamental question is how different players respond to the new situation, offering both a challenge and an opportunity for the peaceful and comprehensive resolution of this long-standing conflict," he said. Addressing a public meeting at Zainakote in Batamaloo constituency here today, Sayeed said the fast-changing equation in the sub-continent offers the country's leadership, not just a challenge, but also a great opportunity to take some major and real steps towards the resolution of the Kashmir issue for the larger good of the region. "This, I am sure, will make India more at peace, not only with its neighbors, but also with itself," he said. Referring to recent violence in Pakistan and alleged involvement of some professionals of Indian origin in subversive activities in the West, Sayeed said such tendencies cannot be curbed through firefighting and quick-fix solutions alone. He said only a visionary and levelheaded response could help our society out of the difficult situation it is in today. "India and Pakistan will have to deal jointly with most of the problems facing their population in the present scenario," he said and added that the reconciliation between the two countries over Kashmir will be definitely an important ingredient of such a historic process. Expressing confidence that Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh would fulfill his commitment of finding an "out-of-box" solution to Kashmir problem, Sayeed said the people of the State could not wait interminably for full revival of democratic system beyond holding of elections and restoration of civil society institutions. "The trans-LoC dimension of the problem will also have to be addressed simultaneously," he said and reminded the Prime Minister of his vision of making the borders irrelevant in the region. Sayeed said the fact that the people of Jammu & Kashmir have made a historic contribution in stabilizing the situation in the State and in strengthening the peace factor, has to be recognized. "The people led the peace process from the front and provided a new opportunity to the huge human mass of the sub-continent and their leaders," he said and added that this contribution should be essentially matched by tangible steps that lead to the permanent resolution of their problems. Addressing the meeting senior PDP leader, Tariq Hameed Karra said the unflinching pro-people agenda and policies of the party are being widely acknowledged by the people across the State and for the first time people feel that their representatives, instead of becoming his-masters voice, are doing justice with their mandate by representing their urges and aspirations. He said PDP has completely transformed the complexion of the State's politics by raising the issues that touch the skin of the people. He said this is unlike other political parties who have been for years representing not their people but their Delhi-masters in the State.
