| Governor’s homage to 1931 martyrs | | | SRINAGAR JULY Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) S K Sinha today paid glowing tributes to 1931 martyr’s, saying that their struggle for the just cause of the people helped in sowing seeds of democracy, which has now gained deep roots in Jammu and Kashmir. In a message, the Governor said that the sacrifices of the martyrs would continue to inspire the generations as they adopted non violent and peaceful means to give went to their feelings for self-rule. Those were the times when the people seethed with discontent but could do nothing due to lack of proper leadership which, however, emerged eventually and steered the State to a new era of self governance and dignity. ‘This led to peace, progress and development of the State with people’s active participation in decision making’, he added. General Sinha recalled the sacrifices of the martyrs and said that by launching a peaceful movement, they were finding ways for giving ex-pression to the agonies of the people. The sacrifices of the innocent people paved the way for the subsequent political movement, which eventually graduated into people’s struggle for achieving the goal of self-governance ’, he said. The Governor called upon the people to rededicate themselves to the ideals of the great martyrs and fulfill their dreams of a democratic, secular, peaceful and prosperous State.
