Utilization of sub-standard material costs punishment to engineers
Govt would not compromise on quality of works: Charak

Srinagar, July 12
Minister for R&B Gulchain Singh Charak today gave instructions for charge sheeting the Executive Engineer, R&B, Division Chadoora, Umar Jameel, suspension of Assistant Executive Engineer, Ajeet Singh and Junior Engineer Thair Geelani of R&B Sub-Division, Rambagh for utilization the sub-standard material in patch work on Bagh-i-Mehtab-Rambagh road.
He gave the direction while inspecting repair works of the road this morning, “Government would not compromise on the quality of work and those involved in malpractices not be tolerated”, he lamented.
The Minister asked the Chief Engineer R&B, Kashmir, Mr. Nazir Ahmad to personally monitor all execution of the works in Kashmir division. Chief Engineer assured the Minister that the road would be completed within three days.
Mr. Charak also inspected the repair work of 2 km Gagribal road on which Rs. 25 lakhs would be spent for patch works and surface drainage. He asked the executing agency to complete it within the shortest possible time.
Earlier, Mr. Charak inspected the construction of Causality and Operation Theatre blocks of Dental College constructed at a cost of Rs. 8 crores. He also visited Oncology block of SMHS Hospital, Srinagar coming up at a cost of Rs. 6 crores.
Mr. Charak asked executing agency JKPCC to speed up the construction to complete it prescribed time on next May.
During his inspection to Fateh Kadal and Kani Kadal bridges being constructed by JKPCC, Mr. Charak directed the Managing Director, JKPCC to complete these historic bridges as early as possible.
Managing Director, JKPCC assured the Minister that the major construction work of these bridges had been already completed and assured the Minister that both the bridges would be dedicated to the people by end of September 2007. He said the Kani Kadal bridge is constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.50 crores and Fateh Kadal foot bridge at a cost of Rs. 80 lakhs.
On the demand of local people, Minister also visited the Sub-Centre Health Department at Nehru Park. During the inspection, the Minister found the maximum staff of the Sub-Centre absent from duty and issue the direction on-the-spot to concerned authority to take action against the absentees.
