| Jagtai township for KPs ill conceived, hasty decision: JKVM | | ‘Decision a shortsighted move fraught with serious consequences’: Razdan | | New Delhi Jammu Kashmir Vichar Manch (JKVM) held a meeting here in Delhi under the chairmanship of its National President T K Razdan and has strongly criticized the hasty decision of the state government to shift the displaced community members living in Camps in Jammu to the to-be constructed Satellite Township at Jagati Nagrota. “This move is not only a clear violation of the human rights of the community but is also against the declared policy of the government itself” says a hand out issued by the Manch from New Delhi today. ‘Community is amazed to learn that Prime Minister was going to lay the foundation stone of a township that was once inaugurated by CM way back”, T .K. Razdan said adding that Government of India in its annual report of MHA clearly indicates that construction of 1,024 two-roomed tenements has been started at three sites viz. Muthi Phase-II; Purkhoo and Nagrota and an expenditure of Rs.11.75 crore has been incurred as on December 31, 2006. Displaced community would like to know which stand of the government is to believed, he asked. “It is clear that the government is deliberately indulging in illogical manner to harass the community in order to please secessionists and political blackmailers”, the release alleges. Shifting the camp dwellers after 17 years to an isolated place with no basic amenities is a shortsighted move fraught with serious consequences. This is a clear signal to the vested interests that government is either unwilling or unable to take the community back to Kashmir and hence the relatively permanent shelter for the camp dwellers, as they are the visible symbol of displacement. JKVM is surprised to notice the lack of response from the community members who attended the meeting with CM Ghulam Nabi Azad. They seem to have been overwhelmed by the occasion. Community refuses to pay for their high tea with the CM. Those who support the official move to shift camps are unaware of the ground realities and are only interested in pleasing the government for reasons better known to them. JKVM rejects this halfhearted measure of the government taken to demonstrate its intention to solve the problems of the community. “We demand that PM fulfils his promise made to the community on his maiden visit to the Muthi Camp. The two- room tenements must be constructed, as is where is basis, recommended by the inter-ministerial team also is”, Razdan said.
