Khajuria calls on Divisional Commissioner, highlights problems
7/13/2007 12:04:46 PM
Jammu:
BJP State President Ashok Khajuria today called on Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sudhanshu Pandey and apprised him of a number of burning problems being faced by the people, of Jammu city in particular, and stressed for their immediate solutions.
Ashok Khajuria expressed grave concern over irregular supply of electricity and drinking water. He said the people of old city are not getting water for days together. Long power cuts are imposed in these days when the mercury level and humidity is on rise. He also expressed concern over traffic congestion in whole of Jammu city besides complaining of non-availability of ration items at government depots and added that just 10 per cent of the fixed quota is released for public distribution. He demanded that full quota be released every month and in addition to it the festival quota should also be released in time as it was done in past.
Ashok Khajuria also took the concerned authorities to task for delaying the already approved Gandola Project between historical Mubarak Mandi and Bahu Fort. The BJP chief also expressed resentment over delay in the construction of proposed Base Camp for Amar Nath Yatris in Jammu city. He said the business of traders and businessmen of Raghunarh Bazar, Jewel, Shalimar Road, Purani Mandi, Kanak Mandi, Shahidi Chowk and many other areas of Jammu city suffers in absence of Base Camp at Jammu and the same needs to be constructed at the earliest.
The BJP chief suggested for construction of a lake on river Tawi near Jammu city so that the local people as well as the tourists and pilgrims can enjoy the boating. This too will generate revenue and provide employment to people.
Terming the imposition of entry tax at Lakhanpur and Lower Munda on pilgrims visiting holy shrines of Mata Vaishno Devi and Shri Amarnath Ji as ‘Jazia’, Ashok Khajuria demanded its immediate withdrawal, a party handout said..
Ashok Khajuria urged the Divisional Commissioner to order legal proceedings against all such politicians, bureaucrats and technocrats who are indulging in corrupt practices and looting the public money meant for developmental activities in Jammu region. He pressed for constitution of a Committee to look into the incidents of collapse of a rotary at Indira Chowk constructed just two months ago and also the collapse of boundary wall of a Municipal Park in Nai Basti area, which too was constructed just a month ago. He said this is the result of use of sub standard material and politicians—bureaucrats—technocrats nexus and for which the guilty should be punished.
The Divisional Commissioner gave a patient hearing to these problems and issues raised by Ashok Khajuria and assured of effective action.
This was the first meeting of Ashok Khajuria with Sudhanshu Pandey after the latter assumed the charge of Divisional Commissioner.
