| BSF Jammu Frontier inspiring sports in lackluster J&K | | | Sanjeev Sharma JAMMU The state- of- the- art infrastructure, highly decorated and qualified coaches, record holder trainees is all what Jammu Frontier of the Border Security Force (BSF) has in its kitty to inspire Jammu and Kashmir lagging way behind in sports world. The regularity in the training schedules for nearly 225 sportspersons in various disciplines reflects approach and attitude of how the training centers at BSF Stadium Paloura, are being run like an institution of sports. From athletes to hockey players and cagers to gymnasts, all can be seen in action in the two training sessions of morning and evening under the guidance of former international players and present NIS qualified coaches working with the force in different ranks. The force has spared three disciplines of Golf, Badminton and Lawn Tennis exclusively for the Gazetted Officers (GOs) while other games of Athletics, Football, Boxing, Judo, Gymnastics, Wrestling, Basketball, Kabaddi, Hockey, Handball and Swimming are open for any one who has a passion for them. The Frontier has well decorated players holding different posts in the force. Those of the rank of Assistant Commandant and above have now been assigned the administrative assignments in different battalions while others have been made in-charge of games they belong to, thus coaching the upcoming players. Athletics has highest roll of 40 trainees at the BSF Stadium while Wrestling remains the second largest in terms of strength with 32. Other games: Football-24; Boxing-16; Judo-18; Gymnastics-10; Basketball-13; Kabaddi-16; Hockey-26; Handball-16; Swimming-15. These trainees have a fixed schedule for their regular practice. In winter they practice between 6.30 am to 9 am, followed by the evening timing between 3 pm to 6.30 pm. whereas in summers, the timing is 5 am to 8.30 am in the morning and between 4 pm to 7 pm in the evening. It is because of the six-hour long daily practice schedule for the trainees that BSF Jammu Frontier is excelling in Inter-Frontier (national level) tournaments every year. The force has created new milestones, especially in the last three years. The records in the last three years of Inter-Frontier competitions clearly show winning edge of Jammu Frontier over its rivals. The Frontier has made hat trick of winning the overall championship trophy. It (Jammu Frontier) has also claimed winning trophy for third consecutive time in Athletics, Boxing, Wrestling, Gymnastics and Judo. In addition, the Handball team has maintained its number two position.
