| VO produces challan after 27 years | | | Jammu, July 12 In a case of disproportionate assets, the Vigilance Organisation has produced challans in the court of Special Anti-Corruption Judge Srinagar against a Junior Engineer of Roads and Buildings department Meanwhile another challan was produced in the Court in a case dating back to 1980 pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of money in case of land acquisition. According to a Vigilance Organisation spokesman, challan was produced in the court against a Junior Engineer of Roads and Buildings division, Anantnag, for acquiring property disproportionate to his legitimate sources of income through corrupt practices worth over Rs 6.86 lakh. Another challan was produced against five officials and four beneficiaries for misappropriation of government money fradulently drawn in 1980-81 against factious and forged compensation claim for acquisition of land for construction of a link road from Khansahib to Yarikhah in district Budgam, he said. The officials belong to Horticulture, Revenue and Municipal Committee of Khansahib and Kachiwari district Budgam. The accused officials were found to have misappropriated government money to the tune of over Rs 96,000. During investigation it was established that the accused officials and private persons in furtherance of a conspiracy had fraudulently drawn Rs 1.82 lakh drawn from the govt treasury on account of land compensation acquired for the construction of link road from Khan sahib to Yarikhah, Budgam. Of this only Rs 86 thousand was actually disbursed among the land owners, while the balance of over Rs 96,000 was misappropriated.
