| Rush halts Yatra | | | Jammu, July 12 For the third time in last 12 days the pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath was today suspended for a day as rush of pilgrims mounted beyond manageable limits and inclement weather blocked the routes. Official sources told EARLY TIMES that the pilgrimage to the cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir was suspended due to heavy rush of pilgrims and inclement weather. Though the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was open for vehicular traffic, the yatra has been suspended due to heavy rush of pilgrims at the base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal, official said. The rush of pilgrims at these places could cause problems for authorities for smooth conduct of pilgrimage to the cave shrine, they said, adding the decision was also taken in view of cloudy weather prevailing at Baltal and Pahalgam areas. The yatra is likely to resume from the base camp of MAM Stadium here tomorrow, they said. The annual Amarnath pilgrimage, scheduled to commence on June 30, got delayed by two days due to blockade caused by landslides following rains. Since the official commencement on July 2, more than a lakh pilgrims have visited the shrine, according to the Director of Sri Amarnath Shrine Board, Madan Mantoo.
