| Will Mush’s crackdown on Jehadis in Pakistan be extended to Kashmir ? | | | Srinagar,July 13 Will Gen.Parvez Musharff’’s crackdown against Jehadis in Pakistan also cover those Jehadis operating in Jammu and Kashmir? This question has assumed added interest among the senior functionaries of police and other security agencies and common people in the state. Pakistan President’s commitment to give teeth to his ongoing campaign against the Jehadis, including those belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammad,Harkatu Miuahideen and Harkatu Jehadi Islami, could have deep impact on the militancy related activities in Jammu and Kashmir if those sent and aided by these militants groups to Jammu and Kashmir were also tamed by withdrawing moral and material support to them. Senior police officers are of the opinion that if the campaign against all these militant groups in Pakistan covered those operating in Jammu and Kashmir there would be major drop in the rate of ingress from across the border and secondly the existing rebel groups in the state would be forced either to surrender or remain on the defensive. At the sametime senior functionaries of police, intelligence and security agencies are yet to forsee any major change in the activities of militants in Jammu and Kashmir unless the Pakistani troops, guarding the LOC,implemented Gen. Musharraf’s instructions strictly. The Pakistani Army’s support to Gen. Parvez Musharraf was imperative for enforcing the crackdown on militants operating in Jammu and Kashmir. They said this support was needed because the ongoing military campaign against various Jehadi groups in Pakistan could force militants to escape arrest or execution by crossing over to Jammu and Kashmir. And to avoid such a situation taking roots in Kashmir the LOC needed to be sealed with deployment of additional troops for checking infiltration.Police observers are of the opinion that in case Delhi felt convinced that Gen. Musharraf’s crackdown on Jehadis in Pakistan had started throwing salutary impact on the security scenario in Kashmir and on the level of ingress the ongoing peace process and India-Pakistan dialogue could witness fresh progress
