| July 13 martyrs laid edifice of JK's political empowerment: Sayeed | | | Srinagar, July 13 – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed visited the martyrs' graveyard here today to offer floral tributes to the martyrs of 13 July 1931. He was accompanied by senior party leaders Tariq Hameed Karra, Peer Mohammad Hussain, Mohammad Khalil Bandh, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, Basharat Bukhari, Ishtiyaq Qadiri, Nissar Ahmad Mandoo and others. Paying glowing tributes to the martyrs of July 13, Sayeed said they made the supreme sacrifice for the political empowerment of the people of Jammu & Kashmir by rising against the autocratic rule. He said July 13 will always be remembered as a defining moment in the State's history when the edifice of the struggle for the democratic rule was laid with the blood of these brave men. "I offer my heartfelt tributes to the martyrs of the people's movement who paid with their lives for the political empowerment of their brethren," he said and added that, ironically, even after six decades of independence people of Jammu & Kashmir have to still wait for full political, economic and social empowerment and they are yet to reap the benefits of globalization and economic liberalization sweeping the region. Sayeed said the history is witness that the people of Kashmir have been made to pay a huge price for the troubles that were forced on them from time to time. "Now the time has come to end the protracted miseries of the State and its people," he said and added that if the political will and wisdom is there, a peaceful solution to the Kashmir issue is as reachable today as it has never been in the past. "The only way to workable peace in the region is the permanent resolution of the Kashmir issue," he maintained. Sayeed also paid obeisance at the shrine of Naqashband Sahab (RA) and offered prayers for peace and prosperity of the State.
