Hurriyat leadership supports Musharraf's crackdown on
7/15/2007 11:53:28 PM

Jammu,July 15
The All Party Hurriyat
Conference(APHC) leadership has supported Gen.Parvez
Musharaff's crackdown on extremists and
terrorists, hiding inside the Lal Masjid complex.
A senior APHC leader,Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat, said today
"we support Pakistan Government's action on extremists
camping in Lal Masjid."Asked why they have been
clamouring over a crackdown similar to the one in Lal
Masjid on a mosque in Kashmir Prof. Bhat said "we
criticise the action of the Indian security forces
because they attack freedom lovers and freedom
fighters."
The APHC leader explained that those holding guns in
Kashmir were not terrorists but freedom fighters. He
said Kashmir "is not a sovereign territory but a
disputed area" adding that "so long the dispute was
not settled freedom fighters have every reason for
fighting for the rights of people of Kashmir"
Bhat said that "not oly we but the United Nations and
India's first Prime Minister,Jawaharlal Nehru,had
admitted that Kashmir is a dispute. He said that
against this Pakistan was a sovereign state and the
present establishment in Islamabad had every right to
initiate action against those who were trying to pose
a threat to its security and undermine Pakistan's
sovereignty.
He said that the APHC leadership was in favour of a
peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue and this was
possible once the ogoing India-Pakistan dialogue
proceeds at a faster pace and at a later stage genuine
representatives of people of Kashmir were involved in
the talks."I am sure if this procedure is adopted it
will result in a durable settlement of the Kashmir
issue which alone could gurantee peace in the
region,"he added
