| Jammu faces kerosene crisis | | | Jammu, July 15 Contrary to the claims of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister of streamlining the supply of kerosene in the state, Jammu city is reeling under severe crisis on account of the shortage of this vital domestic fuel mostly used by the poor Long queues are seen outside the kerosene depots, which open once in a month that too for a few hours. While Minister for CAPD has been claiming that he has busted the mafia which was involved in swindling maximum supply of the departmental K-oil, all his claims seems to have fallen flat as most of the depots even in the municipal limits of Jammu remain closed for the entire month, not to say about the position in rural areas. "The depots open once in a month, that too for a few hours forcing most of the consumers to go empty handed to home", said a man who was waiting for his turn since morning at a depot in New plot area on Sunday. Hundreds of people pushing around each other for securing a mere five-litter fuel as witnessed by this correspondent at Newplot Jammu present a common scene at every such depot in the city of temples. As admitted by the Minister of Consumer Affairs at several occasions, misappropriation of kerosene Oil by a mafia working in connivance with the CAPD employees is a commonly known fact. The misappropriated oil being provided thorough CAPD on highly subsidized rates for poor people is being sold by the mafia either to transporters for using as fuel in Vehicles, or to the unscrupulous traders for adulteration in automobile fuels, sources disclosed
