VDC member, daughter killed; 4 ultras held

Jammu, July 16: In a gruesome incident, militants late last night shot dead a father-daughter duo belonging to the minority community in a remote village of Doda district.
Meanwhile, in other militancy related incident, Army arrested four militants and seized huge quantity of arms and ammunition in North Kashmir, reports reaching here said.
Dalhal village in Doda district was in a pall of gloom after suspected ultras killed a villager and his daughter and critically injured another woman. The slain villager Dev Raj was a member of Village Defence Committee (VDC) - a voluntary village level self-defence force equipped with arms and ammunition by the government, according to police.
Police said that a group of armed men descended on Dahlal village around at around 11PM last night. The village has about 200 people scattered in the foothills of Pir Panjal. The intruders knocked on the doors of the two adjacent houses of Dev Raj and Mukesh - both VDC members, who were prime targets of the militants in the area.
The militants opened fire piercing the wooden planks of doors - killing Dev Raj (48) and his eight-year-old daughter Anju on the spot. In the neighbouring house, they left a middle-aged woman Reva Devi, Mukesh's wife, critically injured. She has been admitted to hospital. Mukesh and other VDC members returned fire on hearing the gunshots, forcing the gunmen to flee.
Meanwhile, in anti-insurgency operations, The Army today claimed to have apprehended four militants and seized war-like stores from a hideout.
A defence spokesman said 46 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a search operation in general area Azadganj in Baramulla following information about presence of militants.
He said troops apprehended two militants, identified as Zahoor Ahmed Rather and Bashir Ahmed Rather and seized one pistol, one pistol magazine and eight rounds from them.
Initial interrogation revealed that they were planning attack in general area Pattan-Sopore, the spokesman added.
In another incident, 41 RR apprehended two persons, identified as Javed and Jalaluddin, while moving suspiciously, he said, adding the two were apparently trying to cross over to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir for arms training.
The spokesman said troops of 3 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry busted a militant hideout in general area Wokhali in Baramulla and sized one rifle and other war-like stores from there
