| PDP brainstorming session today | | |
ET REPORTER Jammu, July 16: With a variety of issues on its agenda, particularly the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s snub on the issue of demilitarisation, the Political Affairs Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party is meeting in Srinagar on Tuesday under the chairmanship of its patron and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Sources said that the meeting was convened to discuss the fallout of Prime Minister’s snub to the PDP leaders when they raised with him the issue of demilitarisation here Sunday. “The meeting was already scheduled to discuss some important issues, but this latest development also assumed significance”, said a PDP leader while underplaying the hype over the issue. Meanwhile, it is learnt that the PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has taken exception to the decision of his party ministers raking up the troop reduction issue with the Prime Minister. “Mufti Sahed has not taken quite a good view of the Ministers’ view of discussing this issue with the PM”, said a party source. He added that the Mufti has made his displeasure known to the Ministers including Abdul Aziz Zargar and Tariq Hamida Qarra. The Political Affairs Committee meeting in Srinagar is also likely to finalise the name of party nominee for the election to the post of the chairman of Legislative Council. The party is believed to be actively considering the name of its MLC from Badgam district Ghulam Nabi Hanjoora. It is also widely believed that the coalition partners the Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party are close to a consensus on the election of the Legislative Council Chairman.
