| BJP critical of PM’s statement | | |
ET REPORTER Jammu, July 16: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s vision of seeing the Line of Control –which divides Jammu and Kashmir into two parts –as Line of Peace has triggered reactions among the BJP circles which has sought to question the Congress stand on status of Jammu and Kashmir –particularly the area under illegal occupation of Pakistan. While the Jammu unit of BJP was too critical of the statement, its national president Rajnath Singh asked Congress to clarify its stand on Kashmir. He said, the Prime Minister’s statement was violating the Parliamentary resolution on the occupied part of Kashmir. A party statement flayed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's suggestion that the Line of Control (LoC) be made the 'Line of Peace', saying he had "no right" to make such an offer which went "against the spirit" of a 1994 Parliamentary resolution. "Speaking about converting LoC into 'line of peace' is against the spirit of Parliament resolution (of 1994). The Prime Minister has spoken against the resolution which clearly says that whole of Kashmir including parts under Pakistan's occupation belongs to India," BJP president Rajnath Singh said addressing a party demonstration in Delhi, reports reaching here informed. The BJP president alleged that making such a statement, the Prime Minister was "putting at stake the security of the nation for the sake of votes". "He (the Prime Minister) has no right to make such a statement," he said.
