| NC delegation meets PM, reiterates demand for restoration of autonomy | | | Jammu 16 July- A delegation of the J&K National Conference met the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at Raj Bhawan,here yesterday and apprised him of the issues and problems facing the state. Ajay Sadhotra, the leader of the delegation and Provincial President of J&K National Conference, Jammu province reiterated the demand for restoration of Autonomy of the state according to the famous Delhi Agreement reached between the Central leadership and Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. Sadhotra stated that Autonomy resolution, which was passed by the J&K Legislature, needs to be honoured as this will provide a most effective opportunity to strengthen socio-political integrity with the country. He suggested that the Autonomy issue may be deliberated upon in consultation with the J&K National Conference leadership and other parties also so that the problem of alienation is resolved as soon as possible and moreover it will lead towards peace in the state. He stressed upon the need of result oriented and balanced development of all the regions of the state i.e Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. While thanking the Prime Minister for his generous financial assistance to the state he requested for meaningful implementation of center and state developmental schemes and projects. Sadhotra also emphasized the need of giving special tourism package to Jammu region in view of train going to Katra in order to strengthen the economy of Jammu as after the train going to Katra Jammu will become desert and it is very necessary to take effective measures to attract the pilgrim tourists towards Jammu. The Provincial President while elaborating the measures, requested the Prime Minister to create maximum job opportunities for the educated unemployed youth at the state and central level. This measure will prove very beneficial in checking the disenchantment, mistrust and alienation of the youth of J&K state. While lauding the bilateral dialogue on Kashmir, Sadhotra desired that all steps including CBM recommended by the Working Groups be made effective, so that the peace process initiated by the Prime Minister reaches to the desired conclusion. Ajay Sadhotra suggested that demilitarization be seen in a right perspective as the armed forces are engaged in a very difficult situation, which demands that such an issue may be decided after having gone through various aspects concerning the atmosphere of the state and its people. Since the issue of relocation of forces basically pertains to the professionals dealing with the situation, the matter be left to them for a better solution. Ajay Sadhotra reiterated the long-standing demand of the party to rehabilitate effectively the POK, Pak Refugees and KPs and other migrants within the state. The Prime Minister gave patient hearing and assured the delegation that he will be happy to take effective measures for the overall development of the sate. The delegation comprised Harbans Singh, former Minister, Rattan Lal Gupta, Sr. Vice President, Ch. Talib Hussain, ex-MP, Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari, Rachpal Singh, T.S. Wazir, Devender Singh Rana and M.R. Qureshi, legislators and Surjit Singh Slathia, former Minister.
