| Rehabilitation of KP’s at Jagti will stall their return to homeland, KPs | | |
JAMMU, July 15: Various Kashmiri Pandit organizations and their leaders have resented the Government’s move to lay the foundation stone for the ``mega’’ Satellite township at Jagti in the outskirts of Jammu. The KP bodies termed the move as the first-stepping stone aimed at settling down ‘permanently’ the migrant families in Jammu and at the same time closing down their chances to go back to valley in distant future. Most of these organizations were also averse to some fellow community organization leaders , who during these years of turmoil played with the sentiments of the community on the slogan of so-called ‘homeland in valley’ and when it was the chance for them to put forth their view point before the august gathering at Jagti yesterday, they maintained silence. Some of these leaders behaved the way as if Jagti was the place where `homeland’’ was to be raised, the leaders opposed to Jagti township exclaimed. One such community leader V K Saraf of Roots in Kashmir, who is deadly against the permanent settlement of KP community in Jammu, believes that Kashmir is the only place for the community to maintain its unique identity. Even if Government was really concerned about the welfare of the community, Jagti like settlements could have been raised in Valley itself, Saraf opined, foreseeing that such a move would have later helped the Centre to encourage the people from both the communities to build-up and restore their broken contacts. Saraf wondered how a place like Jagti would suit the interests of the community. ‘To raise the infrastructure at Jagti will take decades together and their possibility of returning back to their home land would be got shelved with the passage of time.
