| VDC member, daughter killed | | |
Jammu, July 16 Unidentified gunmen, suspected to be militants, shot dead a Village Defence Committee member and his eight year old daughter and injured another family member in mountainous Doda district, late on Sunday evening.
Official sources said that unidentified gunmen barged in the house of a VDC member
in Dalhal village of Doda during dead of the night and resorted to indiscriminate firing on the inmates.
Dev Raj son of Mehar Chand VDC member died on the spot while his minor daughter Manju and another one Reva Devi wife of Mukesh Kumar were injured in the shoot out, sources added.
However, according to the locals the girl succumbed to injuries in the hospital due to non availability of Doctors which delayed early treatment leading to her death.
Sources quoting locals said that the VDC member was killed as he had attended BJP rally of former union Minister Shenaz Hussain few days back.
Senior Superintendent of Police Doda said that police suspects hand of two local Lashker-e-Tioba militants Iqbal and Shabir Itoo behind the attack. He said that a man hunt has been launched in the area to track down the militants responsible for the killing.
