Parmandal murder case: Family of deceased accuses police of shielding cu

Jammu, July 16 Rellpritsatives and friends of Vijay Kumar who was allegedly shot dead by one Shamsher Singh at Parmandal Morh has leveled serious allegations against police and said it is hushing up the case against the main accused, while threatening the eyewitnesses to change their statement.
The relatives of Rakesh who were protesting against the alleged partial attitude of the police were talking to media persons here this afternoon.
One of the friend of deceased Rakesh Kumar, Sunny who claimed to be with him at the time of the murder, said that the Shamshare Singh accompanied by his four associates , Kartar Singh, Ashu Slathia, Yashpual and Salim stopped them near Parmandal Morh when they were on way to Jammu to appear at a court hearing.
He said that Shamsher Singh his former employer had been threatening him for some time as he was demanding his pending dues.
"That day Shamsher appearing from some where stopped his car near me when , accompanied by Vijay Kumar and another friend Sham Lal, I stopped my Bike near Parmandal Morh to drop the later who had to board a matador to his home in Bishnah"
Sunny said "Before I could move again, Shamsher Singh called me from behind" he said adding "at first I hesitated, but on seeing his polite behaviour I went near him, but to my great surprise he and his associates came out and started beating me. Sunny said when Rakesh and Sham Lal saw this they came running to save him but they were also attacked by the other party".
"However, Rakesh who was a well built boy put all of them on punches and kicks and on finding himself and his friends in trouble, Kartar Singh asked Shamsher Singh to take out the pistol and fire at him" Sunny alleged adding " the later did the same and shot Rakesh dead". He said "on seeing this Sham and me got scared and fled from the place."
Giving further details, he said while Sham Lal and I were eyewitnesses, incharge Police Chowki Parmandal, instead of recording our statement put us in lock up and threatened that he will implicate them in the case and demanded Rs two lakhs to let them go scot free.
Sunny alleged that the Chowki Incharge told them that the other party has given him five lakh rupees for which he has let four of them free.
Earlier, the relatives and friends of Rakesh accompanied by JJSF activists addressed a press conference and alleged that police is trying to present the murder as a self defence case only to save the accused who are influential persons.
When approached Superintendent of Police City Jammu South Zahid Manhas said that the law has taken its course adding that the main accused Shamsher Singh is in police custody while the others accompanying him at the time of incident have been released on bail.
Manhas, however, said that the deceased was killed by Shamsher Singh by shooting at him after he was attacked by the former.
