| 4 intruders killed, 2 soldiers dead in ambush | | | ET REPORTER Jammu, July 17: Two soldiers lost their lives is a brutal militant ambush in the border district of Poonch while four militants have been killed in anti-insurgency operations in Kashmir Valley, reports reaching here said. Two soldiers were killed and at least eight injured when militants attacked a convoy of the Indian Army in Poonch district Tuesday. At around 4.30 p.m., militants opened fire on an army convoy in Surankote area of Poonch, a defence spokesman said. He said reinforcements had been rushed to the area to track the attackers. Of the eight injured, one soldier is said to be critical. This is the first major attack on army personnel in the Jammu region in recent months. Meanwhile, four heavily armed intruders were killed by the army in north Kashmir foiling yet another infiltration from across the Line of Control (LoC). "Troops spotted a group of heavily armed militants in Uri sector of the LoC Tuesday morning during a routine patrol," said Defence Spokesman Lt. Col. A.K. Mathur. "The militants were challenged and they started firing on the surrounding troops resulting in a gunfight," said Mathur. Four AK 47 rifles, four pistols, one UBGL (under barrel grenade launcher), 40 UBGL grenades, 77 hand grenades, three wireless sets and one GPS (Global Positioning System) were recovered from the slain militants.
