| Fifty tourist villages to be set up in J&K | | | Jammu July 17- A whooping sum of Rs,128.47 crore has been sanctioned for various projects in Jammu and Kashmir State during the 10th five year plan period .Of this Rs.97.42 crore has been released so far. Twelve Tourism Development Authorities at Patnitop, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri, Lakhanpur-Sarthal, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Kokernag, Sonamarg, Leh and Kargil have been identified for specific tourism development an amount of Rs. 118.00 crore has already been sanctioned to these authorities on the basis of the proposals submitted by them Fifty tourist villages across the State with the allocation of Rs.35.00 crore are being set up in a phased manner. To start with five pilot villages for development of rural tourism are being taken up. Accordingly, during the financial year 2005-06 under the Rural Tourism Scheme of the Union Ministry of Tourism, five projects for development of Rural Tourism infrastructure at Drung Baramula, Surinsar, Gagangir, Pahalgam and Jheri received from State Government have been sanctioned for Rs.50.00 lakh each while three more villages Akingaam, Vasaknag, and Dori Degair were sanctioned during the last fiscal year with financial assistance of Rs.149.00 lakh under Rural Tourism scheme of the Ministry. Sanction for software work plan for the villages are being provided for development under Capacity Building for Service Providers scheme (CBSP) of the Ministry. Four villages i.e. Jhiri, Surinsar and Dori Degair in Distarict Jammu and Akingaam in District, Anantnag have already been extended financial assistance under CBSP scheme of the Ministry. Soft loans have been provided to Houseboat owners and Hoteliers/ Guest Houses for their re-establishment. Ministry of Tourism has supported the recommendation on economic development on Jammu and Kashmir for up gradation to accelerate renovation and new construction of Houseboat, Hotels and Shikaras by supporting the allocation of Rs.30.00 crores for immediate disbursement as soft loan directly by planning commission. Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering has been upgraded by providing world class ski equipments and snow clearing machines to enable them to run the winter & and water sports in Gulmarg and Srinagar. They have planned 5 water ski courses at Srinagar of 30 students each. Indian Institute of Hotel Management and Catering is also getting equipped with the new equipment for the coming session. They are also running one year course at the request of State Govt. for Capacity Building. An amount of Rupees three crores have been spent on printing of brochures, CDs, Flyers, bookmarks and advertising Familiarization Tours of Leading Tour Operators/Travel Agents/Journalist/T.V Teams have been initiated by the Ministry of Tourism to restore the confidence in people about normalcy in J &K. As a result of the infrastructure development and capacity building for the service providers, considerable amount of employment has been created in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh for the youth of the J&K.
