Jammu, July 17
All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association has welcomed the throwing open of underground aquarium in the Bagh-e-Bahu by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, on Saturday July 14.
The hoteliers association has also hailed the concern expressed by the Chief
Minister over Jammu city losing its position of vantage as gateway to
Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage, after the train reaches Katra and measures professed to be taken by the government to compensate Jammu city for the setback to the tourists and pilgrimage staying put at the winter capital of the state, by making it independent tourist destination.
The association in a meeting held here today, under the Chairmanship of its President, Inderjeet Khajuria, however, laid stress on widely publicizing the potential spots for the visitors from outside the state to make visit to the aquarium in the Bagh-e-Bahu as a part of their itinerary. For this, as suggested by the Chief Minister, the tourism department should launch a concerted campaign to sell the place to the prospective visitors from outside the state, by motivating the Vaishno Devi as well as Amarnath pilgrims to pay visit to the place. A vigorous publicity campaign should be launched at Katra as well as
Independent tourist destination AJHLA has demanded that other projects connected with tourism and pilgrimage in Jammu city be expedited, so that the same are commissioned and become functional before the train reaches Katra. The allied project of cable car between Mubarak Mandi and Bagh-e-Bahu and from there to Mahamaya should be expedited.
The association regretted that the same is subjected to dillydallying. It has also stressed on expediting of setting up of heritage centre at Mubarak Mandi, which is subject to red tapism and unnecessary delay.
It also demanded extension of Environment Park on Jammu Bye pass road as well as extension the proposed Manda wild life sanctuary up to Nandani. The association also demanded that artificial lake by raising a barrage in the Tawi River should be created at the earliest. It discounted the apprehension that construction of barrage will create silt.
The AJHLA stressed that by taking all these steps at the earliest,
Jammu can be developed as independent tourist destination, to compensate for the setback for its trade and importance with train reaching Katra.
