| Four infiltrators killed in Uri sector | | Large cache of arms, ammunition seized | |
Srinagar,July 17 (KIP):- Atleast four infiltrators were gunned down by the troops in border village Nandiyal in Ram Pura area of Uri sector on Tuesday morning. According to Defence Ministry spokesman troops guarding the border spotted movement on the LOC.The troops ordered the infiltrators to stop but instead they opened fire.The troops retaliated and after an exchange of fire that lasted for over an hours four militants were killed. He said that all the four bodies were recovered and large arms and ammunition were recovered from them,which included four assault rifles,four pistols,one UBGL,40 grenades,77 handgrenades,50 detonators,six IED explosives and three redio sets. Police said that today’s infiltration bid,that was foiled by the troops,was a major incident of ingress.It said that the incident confirmed that militants were trying to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir in small groups.One senior police officer said that between 2000 and 3,000 militants,equipped with sophisticated weapons and explosives,had been brought close to the border across Uri,Kupwara,Poonch,Rajouri,Akhnoor,Samba and Hiranagar.They were waiting for an opportunity to cross into Jammu and Kashmir. The officer said that bigger groups of militants trying to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir in the near future could not be ruled out because of the campaign against Jehadis having been launched by Gen. Parvez Musharraf in Pakistan after the recent crackdown by the troops on Lal Masjid.
