| ovt committed for universalization of education: Peerzada | | | Srinagar, July 17 Minister for Education Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed has said that the government was committed to universalize education and bring all habitations under educational cover. “Habitations eligible for opening of primary schools were provided with new primary schools under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and 3542 primary schools have been made operational so far” he said and added that 7084 teachers have been appointed under Rehbar-e-Taleem scheme. Mr. Sayeed was speaking at a review meeting scheme here today. The Minister said that the habitations which were not eligible for primary schools had been provided with EGS centre. The EGS scheme was purely temporary as per the guidelines of Government of India, he said and added that it was a community based scheme in which the community had to provide an education volunteer purely on temporary basis as per MoU between the department, the community and education volunteer. The honorarium of these education volunteers was fixed as Rs 1000 per month and the community had to provide space for the schooling facility and had to select the volunteer amongst the highly qualified unemployed youth of the habitation. As such 6798 centres have established in the state.
