Capsule course for forces to understand militants’ codes
7/18/2007 10:27:02 PM

By Govind Chouhan
Jammu July 18-
To take the militants head on and decode their code words, a well-knit training centre has been established in the militancy infested areas of Jammu and Kashmir where the police and the CRPF are being imparted training to understand the code words passed on by the militants during their operations
The top brass of the militant outfits while giving directions to their cadres use code words about the operations and the intended targets.
According to the sources the coded messages are passed on the wireless sets and other communication net work to the cadre from across making it impossible for the forces to decode the messages, if ever intercepted.
To acquaint the forces about the selected codes being used by the ultras during their operations, a plan has been devised where under the forces and the local police are imparted training to understand the meaning of different codes. Sources said the militants often use code words on wireless and other communication to pass their messages to other militants who are active in the state for the last 18 years. Sources said the police, CRPF, Army and other security agencies are now learning these codes in temporary training centers running in different parts of the state especially in militancy infested areas.
A senior officer of security agency said on the directions from higher ups, the training camps were organized to study the militant’s codes.
According to sources the militants use some code words difficult to intercept like Grenade as Aloo (Potato), Explosive as Atta (floor) and American President George Bush as Khanzir (Evil) AK rifle as Biwi (wife) gun as Munna (Son), Machine Gun as Rani (Queen) and Pika Gun I as Raja (King) Similarly foreign mercenary is coded as Mehman (guest) the India Army as Latu Pastu martyr as Shera, Helicopter as Parida and informer as faloose. While being in bus stands or railway stations they use ‘Me guru ke darbar se bol raha hu’ when militant attacks patrolling party of army and police they use code Barat aa gayi ha swagat karo. When the militants plan to kill the informer of police and army they use code Gada gosht kha raha ha.
Over 2000-5000 code words are part of militant's terror dictionary for their conversation trough network centric communication inside the State, senior Police Official said. The focus of their terror lexicon is safe and secure conversation, he said. Security forces however, have managed to decode most of the coded words. The lexicon is getting updated every time with new vocabulary and jargons, he added..
At many times the security agencies intercepted the message of the militants but failed to t understand as these messages were passed on through set codes. The sources said that before pushing the ultras to this side of the border for operations, their harbourers and mentors including the ISI full train them both in arms and different codes used while making communication with each other.
The ultras are equipped with mobile phones, satellite phones, wireless sets and other communication net work through which they pass on messages about their operations.
