| SVO books forest officials, saw mill owner for smuggling timber | | | Srinagar, July 18 – State Vigilance Organization has registered a case against forest officials of forest range Rajwar, a proprietor of a joinery mill, sale depot and a band saw-cum-trolley owner of Kachwari Handwara for carrying out illegal felling of green Deodar, Kail, Fir trees in the compartments of forest range Rajwar and smuggling the illegal timber on fake and forged documents. Case under RPC was registered against Forest Officers Mr. Mohammad Rafiq, the then Range Officer, Ghulam Mohi-u-Din Bhat and Farooq Ahmad Lone, Depot Foresters of Handwara town, proprietor/ manager of sale depot under the name and style of M/S Three Star Enterprises and owner of an illegal trolley cum Band saw, Mr. Ghulam Rasool Wani who in connivance with one another carried out illegal felling of green deodar, kail, fir trees in various compartments of forest range Rajwar. The illegally felt timber was sawn at the unlicensed band-saw of Ghulam Rasool Wani R/o Kachwari Handwara and then stored or converted into joinery items in the joinery mill Three Star Enterprises, Kachwari Handwara. In order to show the smuggled timber as genuine/legal, the manager of the said sale depot cum joinery mill in connivance with forest officials was found to have manipulated the records. The enquiries by the SVO detected 3777 cfts of unauthorizedly and illegally smuggled timber valued at Rs 54 lakh
