NC demands inquiry, traders appeal for Kashmir bandh
8/11/2006 5:58:59 PM

Srinagar, Aug 11 The main opposition party in Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference (NC) has demanded a judicial probe into the killing of a student by security forces at Dalgate, while traders appeal for a general strike tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the Al-Mansoorain has said the student Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, killed by security forces at Dalgate on August 9, was not the member of the militant outfit as was reported in the newspaper.

A senior NC leader and former minister Ali Mohammad Sagar demanded a judicial probe into the killing of Sheikh to know the truth because of conflicting reports.

He said if the media reports are to be believed, then the killing of Sheikh in cold blood was a shame on the part of authorities who are allegedly encouraging state terrorism.

Mr Sagar said if the government has nothing to hide, it should order an inquiry without any delay.

He alleged an increase in Human Rights violations by the security forces in the valley.
