Tributes paid to martyr Vijay Singh
7/18/2007 10:42:48 PM

Jammu: July 18
To commemorate the 15th Shaheedi Divas of Vijay Singh, Shaheed Vijay Singh Samarak Samiti, under its Secretary Mamta Singh, organized Shradhanjali Samaroh in which havan Yagya was performed and later tributes paid to this brave Sub Inspector of J&K Police who sacrificed his life at the very young age on 18th July, 1992, while fighting against the militants in Doda district.
Pertinent to mention here that Vijay Singh belonged to a family which has a history of sacrifices for the nation. His grandfather Col. Vakil Singh, hero of Hussainiwala Operation and decorated with Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) and Sena Medal was a great patriot who was always a front runner for the cause of the nation. Vijay Singh’s father Inspector Parshottam Singh was also in J&K Police and earned a respectable position in the society by his honesty, dedication and commitment towards his responsibility. The demise of Sub Inspector Vijay singh, did not demoralize the boost of any one in the family, instead, it made his younger brother Ajay Singh to take a pledge for taking on the mission of his brother and he too joined J&K Police. Ajay Singh is presently Sub Inspector in J&K Police.
93 years old grandmother of Vijay Singh, Smt. Rameshwari Devi, while paying tributes, expressed grave concern over the attitude of the government towards the family saying that the family is neither getting any pension nor it received any other benefit from the government even after passing of over 14 years.
A Number of prominent social and political figures including BJP former State President Dr. Nirmal Singh (brother-in-law of Sub Inspector Vijay Singh), Dean Students Welfare, University of Jammu, Dr. P.S. Pathania, BJP State Vice-Presidents Prof. Hari Om and Chander Prakash Ganga, Ajay Jamwal, JMC Deputy Mayor Dharamvir Singh Jamwal, Krishan Lal Gupta, Yudhvir Sethi, Balbir Ram, Smt. Usha Choudhary, Shubh Chander Verma, Priya Sethi, Chander Mohan Gupta, Mohan Singh and hundreds of relatives and close friends paid their floral tributes to Sub Inspector Vijay Singh on this occasion.
