| Rupee almost steady vs dollar in early trade | | | Mumbai, July 19 (PTI): The rupee almost ruled steady against the US currency, moving around its overnight close on the back of firm equity markets and scattered dollar demand. In dull trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (forex) market, the local currency was trapped in a small range of two paise after resuming at 40.41/42 per dollar from previous close of 40.40/41 per dollar. Forex dealers said the rupee moved in an extremely narrow range during morning trading. The benchmark Sensex jumped by 137 points during morning trading on the back of sustained FII inflows into equity. The rupee is backed by strong capital inflows but dollar demand from banks prevented any surge in the currency, a dealer commented.
