| Police claim arresting HM Battalion commander, People term it Surrender | | | Srinagar July 19: Police today claimed to have achieved a major success by nabbing the Battalion Commander of largest Kashmiri militant group, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen. However, locals believe that the arrest was a pre-planned surrender by the battalion commander. In a statement, while quoting the Sub-District Police Officer of Bandipora, police said that the Battalion Commander was arrested by Special Operations group of J&K Police and troopers of 51 Battalion of BSF in Bandipora town on a specific tip off about his presence in the town. Identified as Bilal Ahmed Dar, S/O Mohammed Rajab Dar, R/O Lakrishipora Bandipora, the Battalion Commander's arrest is seen as a major success by police against militants operating in Bandipora area. Sources, however, told Kashmir Independent Press(KIP) that Bilal fired a few rounds of bullets in air near the J&K Bank Branch at Gulshan Chowk in Bandipora 'to attract the attention of the troopers with whom he had already planned the surrender.' "He was sitting in Royal Choice hotel and taking some refreshment before he came out and fired several times in air," said an eye witness. "The commander was later arrested without any resistance," he added. |
