| Doctors asked to give reason for referring cases to GMC: Dean | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 20 The work load in the Government Medical College and its associated hospitals have increased tremendously over the last few years. Since last month, more than sixty thousand patients were examined in the OPDs of the associated hospitals where as more than 10,000 patients were admitted in the wards. During the same period 2000 operations were conducted, of these 900 were major operation and 1100 minor. The general investigations carried out in the hospitals crossed one lalh mark, where as 25,000 specialized and emergency investigations were also carried out on different patients. Beside 1100 normal deliveries, 6564 immunization cases and 170 cases of laproligation were also carried out in the hospitals. Principal Dean Govt. Medical College Dr. Rajinder Singh that with this kind of workload in the associated hospitals of Govt. Medical College, there is need to develop a referral system and fix up the accountability of the peripheral institutions. He said only complicated cases should be referred to GMC and its associated hospitals, who require specialized care. He said the doctor working in the peripheral institutions should write the reasons on the referral slip for referring the cases to GMC, Jammu.
