| Tara Chand allows notice to discuss Human Rights | | |
SRINAGAR, JULY 20
Speaker Mr. Tara Chand allowed the adjournment notice given by National Conference to discuss matters pertaining to human rights, in Legislative Assembly today. However, he directed that the discussion on the notice will be held after the main business listed for today was over.
Minister for Finance and Law Mr. Tariq Hamid Karra then laid on the table of House a copy of the J&K State Legislature Members Pension (amendment) Ordinance 2007, he also introduced a Bill to amend J&K state legislature members pension Act, 1984, LA Bill No. 11 of 2007.
Minister for Urban Development and Housing Qazi Mohammad Afzal introduced a Bill to provide for transparency and accountability in the functioning of the Municipalities, LA Bill No. 9 of 2007.
The Speaker then allowed discussion on the adjournment notice. Following members participated in the discussion till the House was adjourned for lunch break. Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather, Mr. Ajay Sadhotra, Mr. G. A. Mir, Mr. A. R. Veeri, Mr. S. D. Shariq, Mr. Abdul Majid Wani, Mr. A. M. Sagar, Syed Bashir Ahmad, Mir Saifullah, Mr. G. M. Saroori and Mr. Qasir Jamsheed Lone. The opposition members expressed their concern regarding human rights and impressed upon the government to uphold the statement about zero tolerance against the rights violation.
The members supporting the government highlighted the measures taken by the government to reduce rights violation saying that even senior officers found involved in violation of human rights were punished.
